ZCCM-IH Highlights Mining and Energy Growth at Mining Indaba 2025
At the 2024 Indaba conference in Cape Town, Zambia showcased its mining sector under the theme “Transforming Tomorrow, Delivering Today.” ZCCM Investments Holdings (ZCCM-IH) Board Chairperson, Kakenewa Muyangwa, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to driving economic development and unlocking Zambia’s mining potential.
Speaking at the country showcase, Muyangwa emphasized ZCCM-IH’s pivotal role in shaping Zambia’s economic future. “Our mission is to create value for shareholders, contribute to economic growth, and positively impact the communities we serve,” he stated.
Over the past year, ZCCM-IH made significant strides in “delivering today” by unlocking Mopani Copper Mines and Konkola Copper Mines Plc.
These developments contributed to a 12% increase in Zambia’s total annual copper production, rising from 733,000 metric tonnes in 2023 to 821,000 metric tonnes in 2024.
In the energy sector, ZCCM-IH expanded its equity stake in Copperbelt Energy Corporation from 31% to 32.5% through a $37.6 million investment, reinforcing its position in Zambia’s power sector.
Looking ahead, Muyangwa outlined ZCCM-IH’s focus on strategic and critical mineral exploration, investments in innovation and technology, and the adoption of renewable energy. “We are not just focused on today’s successes; we are committed to transforming tomorrow,” he emphasized.
The company aims to contribute over 300,000 metric tonnes of copper from its current investments toward the government’s target of 3 million metric tonnes per year by 2030.
Additionally, ZCCM-IH is implementing royalty rights for dividend streams in some of its mining assets and has unlocked Kasenseli Gold Mine and a manganese project under Kabundi Resources Ltd to diversify its portfolio.
